Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway

Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway is a plus-sized clothing store owned by Mr. Pinky in Hairspray's fictionalized version of Baltimore.

Following Tracy's surge of popularity on The Corny Collins Show, Mr. Pinky contacts the Turnblads about sponsoring Tracy for the Miss Teenage Hairspray Pageant. Tracy convinces her mother to leave the house for the first time in years so she can accompany her to Hefty Hideaway to discuss terms. Once there, Edna gains confidence, referring to herself as Tracy's agent and negotiating with a shocked Mr. Pinky. Terms include a non-exclusive contact and commission for Tracy and a "EEE"-sized bustier for Edna. After negotiations, Edna and Tracy are taken away for a free makeover.

The journey to the shop, the scene there, and Edna and Tracy's exit are all a part of a number called "Welcome to the 60's".

Trivia[]

  • The number 618 is written on the building, likely an indication of the address.
  • Mr. Pinky's Hefty Hideaway is the only place other than Wilbur's joke shop, The Hardy Har Hut, that Tracy is seen to have business dealings with.
  • Aside from a reaction shot during the 2007 film's finale, Mr. Pinky is only featured in this scene.
